Searching Healthcare Databases (2 hours)

Whether you are a beginner or need a refresher, this workshop will teach you all you need to know about the world of literature searching.

This session covers:

  • How to plan your search using the PICO format.
  • The names of different healthcare databases and what they cover.
  • Boolean Operators and Subject Headings
  • A live demonstration of a search using the HDAS website.

Critical Appraisal (3 hours)

This workshop introduces key concepts of critical appraisal including the hierarchy of evidence, bias and p-values.

During the session, you will learn how to appraise a systematic review and a cohort study using support from the CASP checklists.
